Farmers’ Market set to return to Weirton Monday

WEIRTON – Those looking for fresh, locally grown produce will be heading to Weirton Monday for the return of the Weirton Farmers’ Market.

The market will officially open for the year Monday, beginning at 3 p.m., and will continue each Monday through October at 306 – 308 Penco Road next to the Goodwill parking lot.

“Our vendors work to provide high quality, locally grown and baked goods to area residents,” said Carole Scheerbaum, West Virginia University Extension agent in Hancock County. “Our produce is picked fresh often on Monday morning just before the market opens.”

Scheerbaum explained all participants in the Weirton Famers’ Market are located within 50 miles of Weirton.

In addition, many vendors accept the West Virginia Department of Agriculture Senior Farm Market vouchers and the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources WIC Farm Market vouchers.

The Weirton Farmers’ Market is organized through the WVU Extension Service, which works to provide current, research-based programs in areas such as 4-H and youth development, agriculture, family and consumer sciences, health, leadership development and community and economic development.

Programs and activities offered by the West Virginia University Extension Service are available to all persons without regard to race, color, sex, disability, religion, age, veteran status, political beliefs, sexual orientation, national origin, and marital or family status.
