Records to go online at local hospital

WHEELING – Patients using the services atWheeling Hospital will soon have the ability to quickly and conveniently access their medical records 24 hours a day.

The free FollowMyHealth service is an all-in-one, computer-based personal health record and patient portal that enables patients to take a more active role in their own health care, as well as that of their family.

“With this new way of keeping track of your health status, you can check your own electronic medical records online in a safe, secure environment from any computer, tablet or smart phone,” David Rapp, Wheeling Hospital chief information officer, said. “You can also communicate privately with physicians through secure messaging.”

The FollowMyHealth system’s top priority is patient privacy and information safety, and all records are stored on and transmitted through HIPAA-secure servers.

Patients using FollowMyHealth also will be able to:

View test and lab results.

Review past appointments.

Request new appointments.

Review medical notes and summaries from their doctors.

Update health information, such conditions, medications, allergies, etc.

Request prescription renewals.

Create proxy accounts for children or dependent adults.

Review immunization histories.

Set and track health goals.

Review post-care instructions after hospital discharge.

Connect/communicate with Wheeling Hospital physicians.

“This really provides enhanced communication and improves the Wheeling Hospital patient experience,” Sean Loy, Wheeling Hospital director of Clinical Informatics, said. “It ensures you have anywhere, anytime access to your medical information without having to pick up the phone. And it gives you a greater voice in your health care. “
