Downed line caused jam on Route 22

WEIRTON – Traffic in the east- and westbound lanes of U.S. Route 22 was at a standstill at 3 p.m. Thursday as a result of downed cable lines between the Main Street and Harmon Creek exits in Weirton.

Cpl. Douglas Mills of the Brooke County Sheriffs’s Office said that a Frontier fiber optic cable line started to droop because of unknown damage to a pole some distance up an adjacent hill.

After that, a tractor trailer “grazed” it, and the next westbound truck caught the lines, bringing them down across the truck and all lanes.

Mills said no one was injured, and it took crews about 30 minutes to get traffic flowing again.
