Route 22 at Colliers Way closures set

WEIRTON – A section of U.S. Route 22 near the Colliers Way Bridge will be closed to east- and westbound traffic for four days in the next two weeks while crews continue to build the new span.

State highway officials have announced lanes below the bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday through Friday and again on Aug. 25 while crews install steel girders for the bridge.

Traffic will be detoured to the Colliers Way exit and entrance ramps in each direction.

The old bridge has been removed and two-way traffic has been established on the completed half of the span, while crews work on the foundation and abutments for the other half.

Swank Construction of New Kensington, Pa. is the contractor for the $6.5 million project, which is slated for completion this fall.

Built in 1966, the old Colliers Way Bridge had deteriorated with age. It is part of the primary route to Weirton Medical Center.
