Water updates given

WEIRTON – The Weirton Area Water Board heard updates on projects and approved an equipment purchase at their regular meeting Thursday.

Jonathan Carpenter of Thrasher Engineering updated the board regarding the East End tank and treatment plant distribution alternatives, for which financing options are being researched. The East End tank is completed and now has water in it, Carpenter said.

Members voted unanimously to approve a post project schedule dealing with financing and any remaining steps. A previous Water Board debt is set to mature in 2016, and Utilities Director A.D. “Butch” Mastrantoni hopes to set up financing so that the payments ending will offset the new ones.

The board unanimously voted to purchase one air hood base and seal kit for the air stripper unit at a maximum price of $3,375.

Board members also voted unanimously to authorize Sam Stoneking Jr., assistant utilities director, to vote on behalf of the board at the West Virginia Rural Water Association’s annual business meeting.

Discussion regarding the delamination of paint on the the Marland Heights tank and Penco tank was tabled until next month.
