PennDOT starts airport road work

PITTSBURGH — Steubenville-Weirton area drivers heading to Pittsburgh International Airport will want to be sure to carry quarters with them and use Pennsylvania Turnpike 576 from U.S. Route 22 through November.

That would let them avoid a set of traffic restrictions that begin tonight and run through Nov. 15 by PennDOT on the portion of the Parkway West outbound to the airport in Findlay and Moon townships.

The left lane of Interstate 376 will be an express lane without access to any exits in the work zone, including the Airport, Clinton and Flaugherty Run Road/Moon exits. The left-lane westbound traffic will be crossed into the eastbound lanes.

The right hand lane of westbound I-376 will use the road’s shoulder (heading toward the airport from Route 22) and will be able to use the exits.

The restrictions will allow rebuilding of the mainline of I-376.

The fare for the Turnpike 576 segment from U.S. Route 22 to the airport is 75 cents each way and avoids the I-376 construction zone.
