Paris church sets outreach programs
PARIS — The Paris Presbyterian Church has announced upcoming outreach programs at the church’s The Gathering Place Coffee Shop located at 127 Steubenville Pike.
They will include:
• noon Thursday, Weirton Medical Center Wellness Series: “Winning the Battle Against the Big C, Encouraging Information in the Fight Against Cancer.” Nurse Sheila DeCaria will present, and a light luncheon will be served. It is free and open to the public.
• 7 p.m. Friday, “An Evening of Music with Kathleen Carnali.” Carnali is a Christian recording artist and her albums include “Kathleen Carnali,” “All to You,” “Dangerous Prayer” and “Be Still and Know.”
• noon Nov. 2, Weirton Medical Center Wellness Series: “Vein Clinic Talk and Free Screening.” Ways to improve circulation will be discussed. A light luncheon will be served. It is free and open to the public.
• 2 p.m. Nov. 4 and Dec. 2, Gathering Place Book Club. The November book is “Death in the Parsonage,” by Susan Spencer-Smith. It is available for $12 at the church. The December book is “Circle of Influence,” by Annette Dashofy. A January book will be discussed and chosen by the club; the club will be reading books of all genres. It is open to men and women and boys and girls of all ages. Soup and hot and cold drinks will be served. There is no cost for the meal or attendance.
• noon Nov. 9, “Coffee With the Author: Doris Dumrauf.” Dumrauf is the author of “Oktober Heat,” set in 1958 Germany, around the time Army Private Elvis Presley arrived, sending German young people into a frenzy. Dumrauf used her Cold War childhood and familiarity with German and American culture as a backdrop to the novel, which follows a young German policeman as he investigates a string of murders. She will be discussing her newest book, “Create Your Own Backyard Wildlife Habitat,” the first in a series about wildlife and their habitats.
• 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14, inaugural Monday Afternoon Movie. Future dates include Nov. 21 and 28 and Dec. 7, 12 and 19.
• 10 a.m. Nov. 15, “Color Me Calm.” The class explores the adult coloring trend.
• noon Nov. 17, Weirton Medical Center Wellness Series: Diabetes Update — Living With Diabetes. DeCaria will discuss new treatments for diabetes. A light luncheon will be served. It is free and open to the public.
• 7 p.m. Nov. 18, “An Evening of Music With Laurie Labishak.”
• 10 a.m. Nov. 29, “Color Me Calm.”
