Rep. Murphy, recognized as a Friend of Farm Bureau
CAMP HILL — U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, was recognized as a Friend of the Farm Bureau for supporting agriculture-related policies, including those that reduce regulatory burdens on farmers, provide for sensible food labeling and maintain and modify taxes for farmers.
The Friend of the Farm Bureau award is given to members of Congress near the end of the legislative session every two years. Senators and representatives are nominated by their state farm bureaus and approved by the American Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors.
“On behalf of nearly 62,000 member families, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau would like to thank Rep. Murphy for voting in favor of issues that benefit agriculture,” Pennsylvania Bureau President Rick Ebert said. “The congressman’s support can help perverse the future of farm families, maintain our ability to produce safe and affordable food and provide resources to assist farmers in implementing environmentally-friendly practices on the farm.
A member of congress must vote consistently in favor of Farm Bureau issues to be nominated, and voting records are compared to American Farm Bureau priority issues, determined by the board of director. The award signifies the recipient had a favorable voting record on issues impacting agriculture over the past two years, but is not an endorsement.
The Pennsylvania Farm Bureau is the state’s largest farm organization and has a volunteer membership of nearly 62,000 farm and rural families, representing farms of all sizes and commodities.
