Two face charges in connection with stolen vehicle
NEWELL — Two area residents are facing multiple charges in connection to reports of a stolen vehicle in Hancock County earlier this week.
Michael Todd Smith, 31, of Newell, has been charged by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department with possession of stolen property, battery on an officer, destruction of property and public intoxication in connection with the Oct. 19 arrest.
Smith also faces a felony charge of third-degree arson from an alleged incident on Sept. 25
In addition, Adieana Hensley, 35, of Minerva, Ohio, has been charged with possession of stolen property and public intoxication.
According to information from the sheriff’s department, deputies responded to a call of a stolen vehicle from 106 Washington St. in Newell. During that investigation, deputies received a second call from Glendale Road reporting an individual had come onto the property and damaged their vehicle.
Upon arrival on Glendale Road, Smith and Hensley were found to be in possession of the vehicle reported missing from the Washington Street address, leading to both being taken into custody.
Statements from witnesses indicated Smith allegedly had broken out a window on the vehicle on Glendale Road. Smith also was discovered to have had an outstanding warrant for the arson charges in connection to a vehicle fire at 120 Grant St. in Newell, involving a 1999 GMC Yukon Denali.
Smith and Hensley are being held in the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail, with an appearance in Hancock County Magistrate Court on Oct. 28.
