Remembering the Rev. Michael Scanlan, TOR

Franciscan friars and mourners filled the Christ the King Chapel on the Franciscan University of Steubenville campus Tuesday evening for prayers and the viewing of the late priest credited with saving the College of Steubenville. The Franciscan Third Order Regular friars accompanied the casket into the chapel singing, “Jesus, Remember me when you come into your kingdom” before they were joined by the mourners waiting in the lobby. The 85-year-old Scanlan died Saturday following an extended illness. A Memorial Mass is set for this morning at the Finnegan Fieldhouse. A viewing is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. today at the St. Francis Friary in Loretto, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception at St. Francis University in Loretto. — Dave Gossett
