Fundraiser to aid Weirton Christian Center
WEIRTON — Area residents will have an opportunity to assist not just one, but two youth-based organizations as part of an upcoming fundraiser.
On March 4, from noon until 2 p.m., the USBC Youth Bowling League at Holiday Lanes will hold its annual bowl-a-thon event.
At a cost of $15 per bowler, participants get two hours of cosmic bowling, shoes and a ball. Participants also have the option to collect sponsorships, and those collecting at least $50 from sponsors can bowl for free.
“Anybody can bowl,” said Holiday Lanes owner Charlie Whiteman, explaining the event is open to the public.
On the same day, the USBC will hold a “Stuff the Bus” event, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the bowling alley.
Proceeds from the bowl-a-thon and all materials from the “Stuff the Bus,” will benefit the Weirton Christian Center.
“A small amount goes to our youth league,” said League Director Bob Babinchak. “The vast majority goes to charity.”
The Christian Center is preparing for the observance of its 100th anniversary, as well as in the process of raising the funds necessary to build a new facility next to its current building.
“We really appreciate the community’s support for our kids,” Christian Center Director Kim Weaver said.
A bus from Brooke County Schools will be parked at Holiday Lanes as part of the collection.
“We’ll have people there,” Whiteman said. “Just pull up and donate.”
