Montani Semper Liberi — Music & Art at Oak Glen III on the way

Acme Brothers Band

NEW CUMBERLAND — Montani Semper Liberi — Music & Art at Oak Glen III, one of the largest and most unique cultural offerings in the region, has expanded to a three-day format and will be presented March 10-12 in the Oak Glen Little Theatre, 195 Golden Bear Drive.

The event will feature four sessions and 16 performances, including many internationally renowned bands. In addition, there will be a large commons area populated by local and regional authors, artisans, crafters and vendors, plus the Hall and Warehouse Galleries featuring an array of visual art, as well as the Porch, an alternate stage offering a full schedule of entertainment, with free admission to all.

The family-friendly event, a school and community collaborative, will provide a slate of activities for children during the mid-afternoon hours on March 11-12.

Each of the four Little Theatre sessions will include three shows on the main stage, plus one acoustic side set that will begin as the doors open for the particular sessions. There will be an eclectic roster of talent on the main stage featuring eight touring acts and four local/regional bands.

Included among the headline bands are:

Alex Bevan

— The Dustbowl Revival, selected by L.A. Weekly as “the Best Live Band in Los Angeles,” performing an infectious mix of blues, jazz, New Orleans swing, bluegrass and gospel.

— The David Mayfield Parade, “… the wild man of Americana” has shared his talent, energy and theatrics onstage with the likes of the Avett Brothers, Mumford & Sons and (sister) Jessica Lea Mayfield.

— Parsonsfield, described by No Depression: “On stage … will give you rich five-part harmonies one minute, sound like bluegrass on steroids the next, and then rock you over the head with unbearably cool and raucous Celtic rhythms. All with taste and class.”

— Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys, an eclectic Americana group with roots in Michigan and branches in alternative Nashville whom No Depression observed as “caught between the pull of the past and the push of the future.”

— The Sweet Water Warblers, three independently successful song sirens and multi-instrumentalists joined together by their respect for each others’ work, their repertoire swings from gospel to bluegrass to soul and even to joyful interpretations of pop.

The Dustbowl Revival

— The Tillers, year after year chosen by CityBeat Magazine as Cincinnati’s “Best Folk and Americana Act,” they’ve shared the stage with everyone from Doc Watson to the Carolina Chocolate Drops to the Legendary Shack Shakers.

— Upstate Rubdown, “a homemade hurricane of sound,” this acoustic septet from New York’s Hudson Valley Region draws inspiration from every corner and decade of America’s musical heritage.

— Alex Bevan, celebrating the culmination of a legendary career spanning from the 1970s’ “Skinny Little Boy From Cleveland,” to his 2017 “A Year of Doing More with Less Tour.”

The local and regional bands scheduled to perform include:

— The Wonder Junkies, a rising Philadelphia-based band soon to make its second appearance at that city’s World Cafe Live, the band is co-fronted by New Cumberland native and Oak Glen High School graduate Patrick Vulgamore.

Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys

— BananaFish, a popular East Liverpool-based quartet comprised of Gregg Harding, Ben White, Jesse Smith and Joseph Langdon. Their full-length CD, “Slumber Party,” is soon to be released.

— Acme Brothers Band, a well established Ohio Valley-based alternative band comprised of Duane Hutchison, Bob Hughes, Pat Broderick, Steve Logston, Doug Rose and Ron Bryer with one self-titled album to their credit.

— Not Quite Pious, a Weirton-based duo made up of Bethany Fernbaugh and Lakin Weaver, friends since childhood growing up in Follansbee and both holding degrees in music education. They specialize in covers of sad songs and silly songs.

Acoustic side sets to open each session will be performed by Paul & Sarah Elliott of Hookstown, Pa.; Bob Walker or East Liverpool; Robert Logan of East Palestine; and John Edwards, Chester.
