WHEELING — WSO on the Go, a new Wheeling Symphony Orchestra initiative to raise visibility and reach new audiences, will have a string trio perform at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at West Virginia Independence Hall located at 1528 Market St.

“WSO on the Go is a showcase for the talent of our musicians in informal, relaxed settings around the Ohio Valley,” Executive Director Bruce Wheeler said. “The musicians are asked to play what they love, including light classical, Broadway, tango and jazz, to get audiences thinking about the WSO in new, more approachable ways.”

The trio is made up of longtime WSO musicians, including violinist Anne Moskal, viola player Jennifer Gerhard and bassist Jeff Mangone. The trio performs “Spring” from Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, “Edelweiss” from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music,” “Habanera” from Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” and “Moon River” by Henry Mancini.

“The courtroom in West Virginia Independence Hall is acoustically alive,” Debbie Jones, Independence Hall site manager, said. “Being able to showcase this historically important space with the beautiful music provided by the WSO makes perfect sense. We’re thrilled to be a part of this great new endeavor.”

The performance, which will last approximately 45 minutes, will be followed by a reception, hosted by the WSO.

The WSO held a kickoff party and fundraiser for the series last October at the Feisley Tree Farms in Belmont County, followed by a concert at the Strand Theatre in Moundsville. An event scheduled in Weirton was postponed in January due to inclement weather and will be rescheduled.

Tickets for adults are $20 and include the reception. For tickets or information about the WSO on the Go performance, call (304) 232-6191. The courtroom is limited to the first 175 paid reservations.

Sponsorship was provided by Jeremy and Jane McCamic, McKinley Carter Wealth Services, Joan and Fred Stamp, Jay Frey and Michael Hires and an anonymous donor. Funds raised for the WSO on the Go project allows students to be admitted free.
