STEUBENVILLE — Anne Loochtan has been named as the new provost at Eastern Gateway Community College.

Loochtan comes to her new post with many years of experience in education, most recently serving as provost at Northern Virginia Community College in Springfield, Va.

She also served as the vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty at Mercy College in Toledo and as the director of distance learning and associate dean of health and public safety at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

She has her roots in Ohio and is glad to be serving students closer to home, but Loochtan says the momentum and excitement surrounding EGCC was the major draw.

“There is a definite feeling of excitement here. The growth of the college during the last two years in phenomenal, especially since so many colleges in the U.S. are experiencing cutbacks and a declining enrollment,” she said.

In addition to serving ax boards including as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the regional accreditor for EGCC.

During the next year or two Loochtan says she will be focused on continuing the growth and excitement already present at the college.

“The focus for this first year will be working with improving initiatives related to accreditation and continuing our online growth as well as continuing to establish and build up the Youngstown branch campus,” Loochtan said.

Jimmie Bruce, EGCC president, said Loochtan’s experience and passion for the region is what made made her stand apart from the other candidates.

“We conducted a search using a national firm and are fortunate to have Loochtan join our team at Eastern Gateway. Her experience and positive attitude will help us grow, achieve our goals and provide the best education for our students,” he said.
