Man pleads guilty in federal court
WHEELING — John A. Lamantia, 60, of Weirton pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to one count of distribution of controlled substances outside the course of professional practice, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen.
Lamantia admitted to distributing alprazolam, a drug used to treat anxiety disorders and panic disorder, in Brooke County in April 2016, Jividen said.
Lamantia faces up to five years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah W. Montoro prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug and Violent Crime Task Force investigated.
Senior U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp Jr. presided.
