Eastern Gateway faculty publish book

STEUBENVILLE — Kenneth Knox and Timothy Glaid, both full-time faculty members at Eastern Gateway Community College, have collaborated to publish their latest book, “Put Me in the Game Coach.”

The book outlines the ways, means and strategies of using adjunct teaching opportunities as a way to make extra money efficiently.

Both authors have worked in the classroom and at the administrative levels.

Glaid, who spearheaded the collaboration, sees the book as not just a philosophical approach to a new pedagogy, but a guide.

“Our book provides an honest, realistic and practical set of suggestions for aiding aspiring college adjunct faculty in establishing a pathway for building a strong personal brand and reputation, which could lead to long-lasting win-win relationships between those faculty, the institutions and the students they are serving,” Glaid said.

Knox noted that in an adapting academic landscape, the only way to stay relevant is to be professionally agile.

“The secret to success in this new academic environment is to find ways to maintain high standards of quality in every environment, embrace technology, become familiar with multiple online learning systems and understand the rules of each institution. If you can be ingenuitive in those ways, you have a strong chance of being successful,” he said.

Jimmie Bruce, president of EGCC, said he is proud to have the college’s name tied to the project.

“It is great to see our faculty involved in scholarly writing and having their work published. Both Dr. Knox and Dr. Glaid have worked many years in higher education both as administrators and as teachers. I am pleased to see their work published so others can benefit from their insight and experience.”
