Preparing for the renovation

Construction on the major remodeling project at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County main library is expected to start on Jan. 22 and be completed by Dec. 20. Once completed, the 10,000-square-foot, two-story addition will compliment and connect to the current 116-year-old building. Public entrance to the building will be at street level on Slack Street with an elevator and stairwell to face customers as they enter the building. The Bookmobile storage and work area will move to the south end of the addition, where new parking space will be added. The addition will include a meeting room, new computer area and new children’s room. During the closing of the main library, the Bookmobile will continue to serve the downtown area with weekly visits in the library’s parking lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays. Taking part in the recent final planning of the Americans with Disabilities Act project were, from left, Library Building and Grounds Supervisor Bob DiBenedetto, Assistant Director Mike Gray and Director Alan Hall with architect Dan Engen, along with senior estimator Jeff Taylor and President Frank Vendemia of VendRick Construction. — Contributed
