During Monday’s Weirton Council meeting, Mayor Harold Miller presented a mayoral proclamation honoring local veteran Mike Grammatikos. Grammatikos enlisted in the Army in September 1951, going through basic training at Camp Breckinridge in Kentucky. He served in the 461st Infantry Battalion Heavy Mortar, and was wounded in action at Finger Ridge in North Korea. Grammatikos attained the rank of sergeant, and received numerous honors, including the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and commendations from the 8th Division Republic of Korea General Son You Chan and 11th Division Republic of Korea General Lim Bootaek. — Craig Howell
