Jewelry sale to benefit Grand Theater restoration project

WINTERSVILLE — A sale of prestigious estate jewelry including pieces once owned by some of Hollywood’s biggest stars will include part of the proceeds going to Steubenville’s house where stars performed, the Grand Theater restoration project.

Discovery Jewelers, 501 Cadiz Road, will host the Singer Estate Collection from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 16. The show will include more than $3 million in pieces from the stars.

Chip Warren, owner of Discovery Jewelers, said the pieces in the show, all of which are for sale, will include items owned by Elvis Presley, Bob Hope, Joan Rivers, Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Collins, Ava Gardner and Linda Gray among others.

A Russian-made 18-karat gold watch by Paul Buhre was owned by Bob Hope and carries a price tag of $4,195. There is a pocket watch that was a gift to Elvis from Michele Carey, his co-star in “Live a Little, Love a Little” from 1968, as well as another piece that was Elvis Presley’s. A diamond-and-platinum ring owned by Shirley Temple is set at $8,975.

Warren said he wants to help the Grand project with a portion of the proceeds from the Singer Estate show and sale.

“I thought with these vintage pieces it would be a perfect connection to the Grand Theater and wanting to bring back a bit of that history back to Steubenville. I have always been in awe of the big theaters and it is fantastic that we have people here who are wanting to bring this back,” Warren said. “It is something the area needs to do and support and be proud of.”
