Ready to ride

A group of six area residents and supporters of Tri-State Christian Academy are in the midst of an annual bicycle ride to raise funds for the local school. This year’s ride, dubbed Jesus’ Journey Freedom 1009, is scheduled through Wednesday, with the riders traveling a combined 1,009 miles on various recreational trails in the region. Proceeds from pledges and donations will benefit Tri-State Christian Academy. Taking part in this year’s ride are, from left, Bruce Trushel, the Rev. Marlin Hawley, Chip Pulice, Darrell Channing, Grant Plasters and George Miller. This is the ninth year for the ride, which started out as a 400-mile trip from Weirton to Washington, D.C. For more information, contact either Tri-State Christian at (724) 947-8722 or Mercy Baptist Church at (304) 723-0700. — Craig Howell
