Traffic reminder issued for city parade

WEIRTON — The Weirton Independence Day Parade will be held Saturday, and Police Chief Rob Alexander is issuing a traffic reminder for those wishing to participate in the festivities.

The parade will begin on Main Street at 10 a.m.

Parking will be restricted on Virginia Avenue and on Main Street from Virginia Avenue to Marland Heights Road. Vehicles left parked in these areas will be towed at the expense of the owner. Traffic on Virginia Avenue will be restricted to parade participants only.

On Saturday morning, traffic in the 3000 block of Elm and West streets will be restricted to drop off for parade participants and residents living in the area.

All parade participants will form up on Main Street, north of Virginia Avenue, and must be on post by 9:15 a.m. No traffic will be permitted to travel on Main Street between Marland Heights Road and the Pennsylvania Avenue intersection beginning at 9 a.m. until the end of the parade.

Motorists and pedestrians are asked to be patient and understanding, Alexander said.
