Mingo Indian statue gets a shining

The Carmichael Signs Co. of Glen Dale on Tuesday polished the Mingo Indian statue in Wheeling and replaced a defective spotlight that highlights the statue from dusk to dawn. The historic statue, located at the top of Wheeling Hill, was presented to the city in 1928 by the Wheeling Kiwanis Club. Working at the base of the statue were Everett Carmichael, center, and his grandson, Deacan Carmichael, right. Mike Duplaga Sr., representing the Kiwanis Club, left, looks over the statue. — Scott McCloskey
