Fatalities reported in Weirton fire

WEIRTON — The Weirton Fire Department is investigating a fire Sunday morning that resulted in the deaths of three people.

The department confirmed the state Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in the investigation, but the three victims’ names and cause of the blaze weren’t available Monday.

Firefighters were called at about 3:30 a.m. to 105 Paul Ave., where they found a fire had spread within the two-story structure.

Off-duty city firefighters and the Steubenville, Follansbee and Hanover Township, Pa., fire departments were called to provide assistance and support.

Firefighters worked for about four hours to extinguish the blaze, and officials with the Weirton department and the state Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the scene for several hours.
