Mary Olive ‘MiMi’ Gracey

GRACEY, Mary Olive “MiMi” Barnett, 99, of Wheeling, died on Monday, March 4, 2013, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling.

She was born May 8, 1913 in Wellsburg, WV, the daughter of the late Clarence A and Florence Chariza Marsh Barnett and was a former member of the Upper St. Clair, PA, Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Mary was a high school graduate at Follansbee High School in 1931 and attended West Liberty State Normal School, now known as West Liberty University until 1933. She was a former teacher with the Brooke County School System; a member of the Weirton Women’s Club where she was a past President; a past member of the Women’s Association at Cove Presbyterian Church; a past member of the Wheeling Women’s Association at Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church; a past member of the Wheeling Country Club; a past member of the Upper St. Clair, Presbyterian Women, Westminster Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Upper St. Clair Women’s Association. She loved baking, bowling, bridge and golfing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sherman “Pop Pop” Gracey in 1978; a son-in-law, Charles Richard Stroup in 1990; six brothers; one sister and a granddaughter, Carolyn Kay Stroup Paarup.

Surviving are her two children, Mary Katherine Gracey Stroup of Bowie, Texas, and Robert William Gracey and his wife, Patricia Jean Zapka Gracey of Wheeling; two sisters, Doris Beverly Ficca and her husband, Albert of Weirton, WV and Jean Louise Verner of Weirton, WV. four grandchildren, Charles Sherman Stroup and his wife, Paula Kay Russell Stroup, Christina Louise Stroup Ransom and her husband, Randall (Randy) Earl Ransom; Robert Stephen Gracey and his partner, David Michael Bargetzi and Jonathan Brook Gracey and his wife, Jane Marie Renner Gracey; a grandson-in-law, Michael Paarup; 11 great grandchildren, Charles Russell Stroup and his wife, Tara Lynn Cox Stroup, Rebekah Kay Stroup Guillow and her husband, Benjamin Robert Guillow, Benjamin Robert “Ben” Stroup and his wife, Whitney Berberich Stroup, Jennifer Catherine Stroup Nichols and her husband, Jonathan Nichols, Erica Marie Ingerson Fox and her husband, Adam Bryan Fox, Sean Michael Ingerson and his wife, Mona Ruiz Ingerson, Christian Dana Paarup, Natalie Rene Paarup, Todd Randall Ransom and his wife, Samantha Elizabeth Jones Ransom, Alana Brook Gracey and Robert James “Jim” Gracey and eight great-great-grandchildren, Riley Noelle Stroup, Charles Lincoln “Linc” Stroup, twins, Cole Robert and Judd Russell Stroup, Amelia Katherine Nichols, Hailey Marie and Colten Luke Fox and Matthew Ingerson and several nieces and nephews.

Friends received on Thursday, March 7, 2013, from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, March 8, 2013, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling (304-232-2732) with the Reverend Benjamin Robert Stroup officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
