John DiCarlo

DiCARLO, John D., 81, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away Monday, June 10, 2013, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio.

He was born January 5, 1932, in Mingo Junction, Ohio, a son of the late Pietro and Palma (Pennachia) DiCarlo.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Domenic DiCarlo and a sister, Dorothy Rotella.

John was the founder of J.D. DiCarlo Distributing, which began in 1960. He started out as a one-truck operation, establishing the Snyder Potato Chip brand in the Ohio Valley. The business that he started has since developed into a multiple truck operation with several brands in distribution. John retired in 2000 and even after his retirement was still a great asset to his sons, who now own the business.

John had one purpose in life, to please God and his family, which he so cherished. He was a selfless, giving and generous man who taught by example in word and deed. Everyone who has ever been fortunate enough to cross his path was always touched by his kind, gentle way, and never could a bad word be spoken about him.

John graduated from Mingo High School in 1950. He was a very devout Catholic and a very active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mingo Junction where he was a former choir member, and a member of the 1st St. Agnes Parish council. He was also a former member of the Mingo Lions Club and a member of the Mingo Knights of Columbus Council #4361.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 62 years, Dorothy “Babe” (DiBattista) DiCarlo, whom he married on October 20, 1951, both of whom cared for each other in total devotion; six children: Michele “Mickey” Barcalow of Mingo, Christine (Steve) Sturgis of Paso Robles, CA, John P. (Lisa) DiCarlo of Mingo; Michael (Christina) DiCarlo of Steubenville, Dina (Dr. John) Balzano of Mingo Junction and Amy (James) Lane of Mingo; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the St. Agnes Catholic Church, 204 St. Clair Ave., Mingo Junction, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and also on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of his funeral liturgy with Mass at 10 a.m. with Fr. James M. Dunfee as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, Ohio.

There will be a vigil service on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
