SMITH, John W., 18, of Jewett tragically died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Sunday, June 9, 2013.
Born August 21, 1994 in Steubenville, he was the loving son of Clay and Jennifer Smith of Jewett.
He graduated in 2012 from Harrison Central High School and Jefferson Co. JVS, where he studied welding and competed in Skills USA welding competitions. He was currently working at Oxford Mining.
John was always willing to help and loved living in the country. He was a member of the New Rumley 4-H Club for 13 years, holding various offices, and the Harrison Central FFA for two years, serving as chaplain. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and pulling tractors, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his sisters, Cylene (Paden) Wood of Amsterdam and Brooke (Vance McConnell) Smith of the home; grandparents Donald “Butch” (Carol) McAfee of Jewett and Katherine Dunlap Cusick of Cadiz and Patricia Wittpenn Smith of Cadiz; a great-grandmother, Ilene Dunlap of Jewett; aunts and uncles Erin (Mike) Goodland, Ross (Marsha) Smith, Breanna (Ronnie) Hinnerman and Jimmy McAfee, along with numerous great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and many special neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by an uncle, Donnie Cusick.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Koch Funeral Home, Scio. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Jewett. Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
