DAVIS, Leavie, 70, of Weirton, WV, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013, at home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1942, in Newton, GA. His birth parents were Drucilla Mobley of Mascott, FL and the late Logan Davis. He was raised in Steubenville, OH by his father and mother, the late John Allen Jr. and Rosie Lee Allen.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn LaVerne Powell Davis; sister, Mary Davis Candy; brothers, Vince Davis, Kenneth Allen, Nathaniel Davis.
After leaving college and having the opportunity to be drafted to play basketball for the NY Nets, he was approached by members of the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff about playing football. He went on to become a defensive back for the Cowboys from 1967-68 until a knee injury ended his career.
Leavie was presently the Operations Manager at Sam’s Club, St. Clairsville, OH.
Surviving are his daughter, Traci Davis of Weirton, WV; son, Karlton Davis of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Kameron L. Davis (Weirton,WV), Dominick L. and Kalena M. Davis(Houston, TX); brother, Logan (Camille) Davis Jr.; sisters, Shirley Hoover, Hajirah Abdus Salaam (Hosea), Delores Allen Livingston, Mary Davis (Bryan), Carolynn Brooks, Patricia (Thomas) Mitchell, Carolyn Benjamin, Geraldine Davis, Ronnie (Melvin) Hill.
Visitation will be at the Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 3721 Main Street, Weirton, WV on Friday, July 26, 2013, from 6-8 p.m., where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. with Elder Walter B. Williams presiding.
Leavie was well loved by his family, friends, and his Sam’s Club family.
