Nellie Nelson

NELSON, Nellie G. “Gertie,” 84, of Canton, Ohio, formerly of Wintersville, died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at her daughter’s residence in Canton.

She was born in Steubenville on June 11, 1929 the daughter of the late Charles O. and Hazel M. Fithen Martin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Nelson; two sisters, Betty Kearney and Maryln Miller; brother, Lafayette Martin and great granddaughter, Char-Lynn Schilling.

Nellie retired as a Deputy Sheriff with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Dept., and was a member of Wintersville Church of Christ. Two things she truly enjoyed in life were camping and traveling.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Schilling, with whom she resided of Canton and Glenna (Michael) Kelleher of Wintersville; 16 grandchildren; 21 great – grandchildren; and three great-great- granddaughters; and a sister, Rosemary (Fred) Ross of Hubbard, OH.

Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m., with Dr. Rev. John Beard officiating.

Burial at Fort Steuben. Memorials may be directed to Vitas Hospice.
