Alexander Vernarsky

VERNARSKY, Alexander T. “Alex,” 92, of Steubenville, died Friday, August 30, 2013, at Wyngate Sr. Living Community, Weirton.

He was born March 5, 1921, in Follansbee. He is the son of the late Andrew and Anna Daniels Vervarsky.

Alex is also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Gordon Vernarsky; three brothers, Albert, Joseph and Samuel; and six sisters, Elizabeth, Mary, Betty Anne, Charlotte, Rose and Josephine.

Alex retired in 1987 from Timet, where he was a shipper, was a member of Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church and it’s St. Francis Society and served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Surviving are two sons, Jim (Elise) Vernarsky of Altoona, PA and Tom (Dolores) Vernarsky of Evansville, IN; two daughters, Mary Ann (Gerry) Sack of Alexandria, VA and Peggy (Charles) Henry of Wintersville; one sister, Violet Hess of Follansbee; 11 grandchildren, Michelle, Jeff, Ann Marie, Chris, Renee, Brian, Rebecca, Matthew, Alexis, Benjamin and Andrew; eight great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Gillian, Charlee, Sienna, Zachary, Madelyn, Nathan and Victoria. Also several nephews and nieces.

Calling hours are Sunday 4-7 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville.

A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Bradley Greer, celebrant. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service 4 p.m. Sunday.
