Martha A. Romanda

ROMANDA, Martha A. “Marty,” 73, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, in her home.

She was born Jan. 20, 1940 in Mingo Junction, Ohio, a daughter of the late Stephen Kopcha and Anna (Halischak) Kopcha of Mingo Junction.

Marty was a math and science teacher at the former St. Agnes School in Mingo. After her retirement she continued her teaching career as a substitute teacher for all the districts in the area. She was a member of St. Andrew Orthodox Church in Mingo where she was a member of the choir and the St. Andrew Sisterhood.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, John J. Romanda, whom she married on September 16, 1962; four children, Marcy (Brad) Shaffer of Romney, IN, Victoria (Mike) Doepker of Copley, OH, John C. Romanda of Houston, TX and Joseph Matthew Romanda of Mingo; three brothers, V. Rev. John (Paula) Kopcha of Mingo, Theodore Kopcha of Mingo and Robert (Judy) Kopcha of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister, Kathy (Paul) Cutri of Steubenville, Ohio; and six grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction. On Saturday Marty will Lay in State at the St. Andrew Orthodox Church from 10 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 11 a.m. with her cousin Fr. Basil Rusen and brother, V. Rev. John Kopcha, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery in Mingo.
