Nell Reed

REED, Nell E., 99 of New Cumberland, passed away Saturday, Aug 31, 2013, at Weirton Medical Center.

She was born Nell Elizabeth Stanley on August 14, 1914, in Jackson County, WV, the fourth oldest of 10 children to the late Perry and Essie Stanley. Nell married Earl W. Reed Sr. on March 16, 1940, in Florence, Pa., and had one son Earl Jr.

Nell was an exceptionally loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend to all those who knew her. Family and friends meant everything.

After her husband’s passing in 1976, she continued to live in Weircrest in Weirton for many years where she had several neighborhood friends. In 2004, she moved to the Hancock House in New Cumberland where she continued her friendship with all those around her. She regularly attended weekly Bible Study along with monthly Christian Church Service and Sunday morning church programs on television. It must also be noted that she was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and loved to listen to country music.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Earl W. Reed Sr., two sisters, Margaret Blevins and Gladys Hendershot; and three brothers, Bill, Rader, and Everett (Bud) Stanley.

Nell is survived by son Earl W. Reed Jr. and wife Joyce of New Cumberland, one brother, Curtis Stanley of New Cumberland, three sisters, Lou Gross and Clara Tate of Weirton and Effie Pesta of Steubenville. two grandsons, Earl Jason Reed of Powhatan, Va and Jordan Christopher Reed and wife Monica of Weirton, one great-grandchild, Anna Mae, and three step-great-grandchildren, Becca, Mikhail and Krissy.

She will be remembered as a beautiful lady who lived life and enjoyed each day as it came, along with being the best grandmother you could ever ask for. Her wonderful smile and laugh will be eternal.

Visitation will be held at the Nixon Funeral Home in New Cumberland, on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with funeral services at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept 4, 2013. Burial will follow at New Cumberland Cemetery.
