Peter M. Oliveti
OLIVETI, Peter M., 82, of Steubenville, OH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2013, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
At the time of his death Pete was surrounded by his family.
Pete was born in New York, N.Y., on September 8, 1931, to Giuseppe and Rafaela Ferrauiola Oliveti.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Joseph “Sauce” and Anthony and by his first wife Angeline Vatrella Oliveti.
Pete attended Steubenville High School and was a 1960 graduate of the College of Steubenville.
He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Peter was an active member of the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity, Steubenville Alumni Club, the Knights of Columbus Council 4361 and the Italian American Cultural Club.
As the Scoutmaster for St. Anthony Troop 10, Pete spent many years guiding his Boy Scouts several of whom reached the ultimate rank of Eagle Scout. Peter was a member of the former St. Anthony Catholic Church and later Holy Family Church. He was a longtime employee of Weirton Steel serving many years as a union steward and as a member of the union’s executive committee. Following his retirement in 1991 Pete spent his remaining years working in his home woodshop, traveling the country with his wife Catherine and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Catherine Vatrella Oliveti; his sister, Rose (John) Annis; his children Joseph (Maureen), Ralph, Frank (Christa Rivo), John (Sharon) and Isabel (Allen) Nickle; his grandchildren, Tara Oliveti (Justin Meyer), Dominic (Michelle) Oliveti, Christopher Oliveti Maria (Eric) Butler, Catherine Nickle, Angelina Oliveti, Alexander Nickle, Joseph Oliveti, Peter Nickle and Matthew Nickle; and his great-grandson, Luca Oliveti.
Calling hours are Wednesday 5-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd, Steubenville. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Msgr. Gerald Calovini, celebrant. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service Wednesday at 5 p.m.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Steubenville Catholic Central High School, 320 West View, Steubenville.
