Anna D. Lee

LEE, Anna D., of Steubenville, Ohio, a resident of Mingo Junction, Ohio, since 1979, died December 19, 2013, in Steubenville.

She was born June 3, 1932, in Steubenville Ohio.

She was preceded in death by mother Leola Allen, father Howard Burnley Sr., brother Howard Burnley Jr., sister Victoria Lindsay, grandson Johnathan Lee Snyder and great-grandson Anthony Ra’Maan Snyder Jr.

She has three daughters: Marian L. Osborne of Columbus, OH, Karla M. Snyder of Columbus, OH, and Dreana L. Jones of Manassas, VA; one son, Reuben Thomas of Tacoma, WV; seven grandsons, seven granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, her loving cousin Juanita Swarns Slappy and her close friend, Leonett Murray.

Anna was employed by the Jefferson County Clerk of Courts for 13 years as a car title typist, then as a criminal docket clerk during the day. And in September of 1978 pursued a college career at night, earning a double major in bachelor of science in business management and accounting in 1982 and a master’s in business administration in 1988. She was employed by Jefferson County Behavioral Health as an accountant in 1984 and retired in March 2011. She was an active member of the Martin Luther King Choir for more than 30 years.

She has been a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church of Steubenville, Ohio, where she served as academic education coordinator and tutor for 30 years. The tutorial program’s name, Anna’s Kids, was changed to the George C. Smith Tutorial Program and the George C. Smith Scholarship Committee was formed. Mrs. Anna Lee served on the committee since its inception. Mrs. Lee also is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

She dedicated her time and talent tutoring and counseling children and adults in the community on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings at Second Baptist Church until she retired in June 2009 with 30 years of dedication.

Delta Sigma Theta services will be Thursday, December 26, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. at the Vinson House of Mortuary. Calling hours are on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, with services at 11 a.m. Friday, December 26, 2013 at the Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Calvin McLoyd Jr. officiating and the Rev. Maurice Lawson giving the eulogy.
