Dr. Robert Ralich
RALICH, Dr. Robert Michael, 39, passed away in Washington, D.C.
He was born in Jeanette, Pennsylvania on June 1, 1974, the son of Sue and Jack Ralich.
Mike was a gifted scientist, a loving son and a true friend. Mike earned his Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees from the University of Akron and went on to earn a Ph.D. in physics from Florida Institute of Technology. He also studied at Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina and Vrije University in Holland.
Mike made significant contributions to the scientific community, having been published in the journal Nature for his work in nanolithography, as well as collaborative research that in 2013 confirmed the Higgs boson particle, also known as the ‘God’ particle, at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland.
Mike earned numerous awards including the Householder award for outstanding undergraduate research and the John. E. Miller award for excellence in physics. Mike continued his career working for homeland security in Washington, D.C. Preceding Mike in death were his father Jack Ralich, grandmother Edith Ewaskovich, brother Mark Ralich, uncle Mark Ewaskovich and cousin John Kennedy.
Surviving are his mother, Sue Bonner Ralich of Steubenville, OH; brother, Shane Ralich of Hollywood, Florida; best friend, Chris McDonald; longtime girlfriend, Carrie Thompson; and his true love, Daisy May.
