Kimberly I. Holmes

HOLMES, Kimberly Irene, 56, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Weirton, W.Va., Steubenville, Ohio, and Riverside, Calif., passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Indianapolis with family.

Kim was born Oct. 24, 1957, the only daughter of the late William “Bill” S. Holmes Sr. and Elizabeth “Lil” Ann (Rice) Holmes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandfather, Aaron Rice Sr., grandmother Irene (Dawkin) (Rice) Kimber, Aunt Lea Ester (Rice) Motley, Uncle James “Buck” Rice, Uncle Aaron Rice Jr. and Uncle John Motley Sr.; and three cousins, Elicia, Riyeasa and Minnecca Lawrence.

Kim was a 1975 graduate of Weir High School in Weirton, W.Va., and attended West Liberty State College for a couple semesters.

Kim had a degree as a medical transcriptionist and worked many years at Riverside Community, Kohala and Community East Hospitals. Kim also worked at Weirton Steel as a laborer, Ohio Valley Hospital as a nurse’s aide, as a bartender at PC Lounge and Wow-Wees and worked at Amazon Inc.

Her hobbies included a love of Scrabble, Words With Friends and Monopoly, cooking good food for family and friends and beating her brothers and others at pool.

Kim is survived by her four children, Michael T. Holmes, Dannette N. Thorn, Brittney N. Thorn and Cassaundra A. (Ernest) (Thorn) Watson, all of Indianapolis; three brothers, William S. “Skip” (Minnie) Holmes Jr. of Kokomo, Ind., Ronald M. (Phyllis) Holmes of Lorton, Va., and Jeffrey S. Holmes (AKA “You Kimberly’s Little Brother”) of Steubenville, Ohio; eight grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; former husband, George Thorn, former sisters-in-law, Kelly R. (Atkins) Holmes, Saleana Thorn and Janee Rue and brothers-in-law Bobby Ray and Paul Rue III, Mother- and Father-in-Law, Sandy and Paul Rue; Special Sister Loretta Patterson; and God Daughter Sonja Hudson.

Arrangements by Indianapolis Funeral Care of Allison Road, Ind., with cremation per Kim’s desire occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013.
