Sharon L. O’Brien

O’BRIEN, Sharon Lee (Marsh) Smith, 78, of Wellsburg, W.Va., passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2013, at home.

She was born on October 23, 1935, in Lansing, Mich., a daughter of the late Warren Brainerd “Brent” Marsh and Mary Louise (Yarling) Marsh Sprowls.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Edward Smith in 1974; a brother, Warren “Woody” Marsh; sister-in-law, Maurine Marsh; brother-in-law, Joel Cross; and daughter-in-law, Dorothy Smith.

Following her graduation from Wellsburg High School with the class of 1953, Sharon, attended the former Elliott School of Business in Wheeling. Sharon worked for many years as a secretary at the former Arkell and Smith Paper Factory, and as a bookkeeper at the former Brooke Furniture.

She is survived by her husband, George Michael O’Brien, whom she married May 31, 1985. Also surviving are four children, Raymond Edward “Butch” (Alisa) Smith of Wellsburg, Karan Lee (Tim) Kleptz of Goshen, Ind., Michael Brent Smith of Glen Burnie, Md., and Amy Louise (Ken) Pearson of Evanston, Wy.; two sisters, Carolyn “Cookie” (Marsh) Santilli of Wellsburg, W.Va., and Mary Elizabeth (Sprowls) Cross of Follansbee, W.Va.; nine grandchildren, Donald Smith, Brittany (Erik) Teaters, Holly (Adam) Phoenix, Kevin (Ashley) Kleptz, Janice (Bryson) Bontrager, Kylie Pearson, Michala Pearson, Katie and Karlie Smith; one great-grandchild on the way, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 17, and on Wednesday, December 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at which time Pastor Frank Haas will officiate over funeral services at Mullenbach Funeral Home, 669 Main St., Follansbee, W.Va.

Interment will follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Weirton, W.Va.

The family wishes to note its appreciation of the care provided to Sharon by Amedisys Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wellsburg Presbyterian Church.
