C. Malcolm Fellows

FELLOWS, C. Malcolm, 77, of Brilliant, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, after 31 days in the ICU unit at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio.

He was born Aug. 26, 1936, in New Alexandria, Ohio, a son of the late Clarence and Olive (McCullough) Fellows.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Tim Fellows on Jan. 11, 2012; and a sister, Marlene Fellows Gunning in 2006.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Elaine (Brooks) Fellows, whom he married on Aug. 31, 1957; a daughter, Deanne Fellows-Petras of Wintersville, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Fellows of Gahanna, Ohio; grandchildren, Megan Fellows and Mark Fellows of Columbus, Ohio, and Josh Petras and Melody Petras of Wintersville, Ohio; a sister, Sandra (Richard) Jeffers of Brilliant, Ohio; brother- in-law, Lyle Gunning of Palm Harbor, FL; his mother-in-law, Wilma Brooks of Brilliant; and several nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Brilliant High School in 1954 and Muskingum College, then he joined his father in the family business, Fellows Feed and Farm Supply, which later became Fellows Equipment.

After closing the store he worked for Life of Virginia Insurance Co. and later was an independent agent, selling mostly hospitalization. He also worked for Ambulance Service.

Malcolm was a very active person, serving as a volunteer fireman in the Brilliant Fire Department for 53 years, he was the Chief and Assistant Chief for a number of years. He loved the fire department and was on the committee that built the new fire department. He has a lot of friends at the fire department.

He was also a member of the Brilliant Lions Club and the Steubenville Rotary Club; he acted as the Wells Township Fire Inspector; served on the Jefferson County Fair Board; and over the years has been a very active necessity in his church, the Brilliant First United Presbyterian Church.

A living example of how a father should be, Malcolm was a wonderful provider, and loving husband. As well as being the oldest member of the BVFD. Malcolm made himself readily available to put others first in any situation; therefore, he lived to serve. He was a great sports fan, offering great support to the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns, the Ohio University Bobcats and the Cleveland Indians.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kenn Sickle, officiating. Interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.

On Wednesday there will be a Lions Club Service at 6:45 p.m. and a service by the Brilliant Fire Department at 7 p.m.
