Carl W. ‘Bird’ Panetta
PANETTA, Carl W. “Bird,” 76, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.
He was born Dec. 18, 1937, in Mingo Junction, OH, a son of the late Michele and Adeline (DiCarlo) Panetta.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph A. Panetta and a sister, Eleanor G. O’Brien
Carl retired in 2000 after 37 years on the 80 inch at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was Catholic by Faith and an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. Carl enjoyed the village of Mingo Junction, he enjoyed going downtown, swimming at the pool and rooting for the Mingo Indians.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 52 years, Donna (Criss) Panetta, whom he married on Nov. 4, 1961; a sister, Theresa (Alfred) Bonaventura of Wintersville, OH; five nephews; two nieces; and many loyal and supportive friends.
Friends will be received on Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Sister Ellen Dunn, op, officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad at the funeral home immediately after the funeral service. Private interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo.
