Grace Mathias

MATHIAS, Grace I., 89, of Coshocton, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Coshocton Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on October 5, 1924, in Coshocton, to the late Jacob and Evelyn (Gress) Reiss.

In 1942, she graduated from Coshocton High School and then attended Coshocton City Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1946. She was a registered nurse at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1982.

On August 9, 1953, she married Myron J. Mathias who passed away on February 28, 1983. Grace was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ of Coshocton. She enjoyed gardening and painting ceramics; going to the nurses luncheon once a month with her friends and spending time with her family.

Grace is survived by her daughter, Sue Ann (John) Edgerly of Mingo Junction, Ohio; sister-in-law, Cheryl Reiss of Tupelo, Mississippi; and her beloved cat, Holly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Paul Reiss.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014, in the Chapel of Given-Dawson Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with Reverend Joanna Lance officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday.
