MAYERNICK, Joseph William, 64, of Roaming Shores, Ohio, died Thursday, March 20, 2014 at his home after 20 months in cancer treatment.
He was born March 15, 1950 in Steubenville, OH, the son of Joseph A. and Grace E. (Hannon) Mayernick.
He graduated from Weirton High School, and in 1972 from Bethany College, Bethany, WV with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. He was an active member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, served as an officer of student government and later as a College Board member.
Before moving to Ashtabula County, he assisted with the creation of an ESOP at Weirton Steel and headed a multi-county Chamber of Commerce/ economic development organization in the northern panhandle of West Virginia.
The founding director of the Growth Partnership for Ashtabula County, he currently was the principal of Hermitage Capital Partners, LLC, negotiating financing and incentives for troubled companies. He held membership in many state and national economic development associations.
In addition to the love of his family and ever faithful dachshund, Denny Crane, he enjoyed the art of the financial deal, creating jobs, smoking cigars, boating and wine tasting.
He is survived by his loving wife and partner, Holly (Hill) Mayernick, whom he married November 13, 1993; his daughter, Amanda (Nathaniel) Wente of Perry Township; two sisters, Cheryl (Alfred) Sweeney of Palm Coast, FL, Amy Dhayer of Las Vegas, NV; a brother, Alan (Jennifer) Dhayer of Indianapolis, IN and one nephew, Austin Cooper (Las Vegas, NV).
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph A. Mayernick, his mother, Grace E. (Hanon) Mayernick Dhayer, and his step-father, Edward R. Dhayer.
At Joe’s request, services will be private. Zaback- Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula is handling arrangements.
