HAUCK, Robert “Bob” L., 82, of Mingo Junction, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Sienna Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in Wintersville, Ohio.
He was born December 3, 1931, in Mingo Junction, Ohio, the son of the late Noel and Irene (Bishop) Hauck.
A native of Mingo Junction, Bob attended Mingo High School, graduating in 1949 after returning from the San Diego, California area, where he lived with his parents during a brief two-year period.
Bob married Esther Mae (Spear) Hauck, his beloved wife of 49 years, on January 16, 1951. He served as a United States Marine, joining the Corps on January 23, 1952. Bob was a sergeant during the Korean War, stationed in Florida at the Opa-Locka Naval Air Station as an aviation crash crew firefighter specialist until his honorable discharge on January 22, 1954.
Bob and Esther returned to Mingo Junction following his service, raising their family and where Bob worked and owned Trans- Videonics, a television, stereo and electronic specialty repair company. He was an expert electronic repair technician, also working at M&M Hardware and Sun Television until his retirement.
He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Pythias in Mingo Junction. He was also a former member of the Mingo First United Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.
He loved to fish, especially looking forward to those annual fishing trips to Canada. He also had a passion for playing euchre, a card game he continued playing weekly with his closest euchre buddies until very recently.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Mae (Spear) Hauck; his brother, William “Bill” L. Hauck of Mingo Junction; and a sister, Betty June Wieters.
Bob is survived by his sons, Gary (Barbara) Hauck of Mingo Junction, Dan (Tina) Hauck of Carpinteria, California and Robert (Georgette) Hauck of Beaverton, Oregon; grandchildren, John Hauck, Brandon (Jean) Hauck, Josh?Hauck, LeighAnn (Brian) Krager, Aaron Hauck, Courtney Hauck; and most recently, great-granddaughter, Ava Hauck.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. John Figel and Rosann Trimmer, family nurse practitioner, and the entire staff at Sienna Skilled for the wonderful care they gave Bob.
Friends may call at Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. and also on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of his funeral services at noon, with Rev. Michael E. Bongart officiating.
Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo, with military honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
