B. Joan Hamilton

HAMILTON, B. Joan “Baglady,” 83, who spent most of her natural life in the Carrollton area, passed away on April 2, 2014, in the home of her daughter after a long battle with COPD.

Joan was the daughter of the late Perry J. and Norma M. Vasbinder.

She spent many years as a Girl Scout leader, member of the Carroll County Historical Society, the Carroll County Genealogical Society, and the Carrollton Chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carrollton and attended the Unionport Christian Church.

Her hobbies included scrapbooking, sewing, gardening, natural living, and cheering for the grandchildren at ball games. She was very instrumental in saving the McCook House.

In 1994 she became a licensed minister within the state of Ohio.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by brother, Norman Carol Vasbinder; a sister, Carolyn Sue Brown; a granddaughter, Christa Nicole “Nikki” Hafner; and four infant great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two sisters, Louise (Ralph) Yeager of Harlem Springs and Molly Kaye (Bill) Laverty of Marshfield, MO; five children, Doris Ellyn (Basil) Thompson of Nederland, CO, Paula Liane (Norbert) Pugh of Surprise, AZ, Lisa Annette Barber of Carrollton, Samuel Alan (Linda) Hamilton of Carrollton, and Katherine “Katie” (John) Grafton of Bloomingdale with whom she resided. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Tara (Steve) Shockites, Cory Basil (Thompson), Jason Pugh, Matthew (Sarah) Pugh, Jessica Lee (Scott), Jeff Hafner, Katie (Brian) Dingler, Sarah (Eric) McCort, Mary (Amos) King, Samuel (Laken) Hamilton, Amanda (Jeff) Wood, Clinton Grafton; and also 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 7, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton with Rev. Hubert Granger and Rev. Jeremiah Kuttler officiating.

Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
