Mary Lou Matthew

MATTHEW, Mary Lou, 78, of Weirton, WV, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014, at the Valley Hospice Care Center North, Steubenville, OH.

She was born October 28, 1935, in Steubenville, OH, the daughter of the late Foster J. and Mildred A. Renshaw Nedrow.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, William H. Matthew (2011). She retired in 2001 as librarian of Weir Middle School with over 43.75 years of service.

Mary Lou was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church, a member of United Methodist Women, Hancock County Association of Retired School Employees. She was a graduate of Weir High School (1953), West Liberty State College, Bachelor/Education (1957) University of Pittsburgh, Master/Education (1959), University of Pittsburgh, Master/ Library Science (1967).

Surviving are her daughters, Debbie Hatcher (Gary) of Pickerington, OH, Sherry May Tynes (Larry) of Newburgh, IN, Anne Matthew of Lake Mary, FL; son, William Matthew (Sherry) of Greencastle, PA; brother, Richard Nedrow (Patricia) of Homosassa, FL; grandchildren, Catie and Matt Hatcher, Kara Tynes, Mandi and Jake Matthew; and stepgrand children, Jeremy and Brandon Tynes and Matt, Steve and Shawn Green; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 23, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be held on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of funeral at 10 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 3598 Pennsylvania Avenue, Weirton, WV with Pastor Tim Conrad presiding.

Interment will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park, Calcutta, OH.
