Joseph S. Swinsinski

SWINSINSKI, Joseph S. “Joe,” 95, of Wintersville, OH, formerly of Mingo Junction, Ohio passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2014, at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.

He was born Nov. 24, 1918, in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Stephen and Veronica (Uleszwski) Swinsinski.

Joe was a retired Furnace Operator for Satraloy Corp in Mingo Junction. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the combat infantry and earned a bronze star.

He was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church where he sang in the choir for over 40 years and was in the St. Francis Society. He was also a member of the Mingo Knights of Columbus 4361; the Mingo American Legion Post 351 and the V.F.W. in Follansbee, WV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret V. “Maggie” (Robb) Swinsinski; five brothers, Steve, Pete, Chester, Henry and Stanley Swinsinski; and two sisters, Stella Meta and Frances Morrison.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph F. Swinsinski and his companion, Virginia Connor of Mingo Junction and James A. (Patty) Swinsinski of Wintersville, OH; two grandsons, James Swinsinski and Billy Swinsinski; a great granddaughter, Alicia Swinsinski; and one sister, Veronica (Sam) Sedoti of Steubenville, OH.

Joe will lay in state at St. Agnes Catholic Church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 11 a.m., with Fr. James M. Dunfee as Celebrant, with Military Honors following mass by both the Mingo American Legion Post 351 and Brilliant American Legion Post 573. Private burial at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo Junction.
