Lawrence E. Sweeney, 86, formerly from Steubenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 9.
He was born on February 27, 1928, in Toronto, Ohio, son of the late Daniel Sweeney, Sr., and Margaret Millin Sweeney.
He was employed in the fuel department at Weirton Steel for 43 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge 583, and a past member of Dyer Country Club.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Hutton Sweeney; brothers, Steven Colbert, Daniel Sweeney Jr., Raymond Sweeney; and sister, Leota Colbert Reynolds.
Surviving are sons, Tim Sweeney (Kathy) of North Canton, Jerry Sweeney of Cumming, Georgia, Paul Sweeney (Tammy) of Steubenville, Ohio, Larry Sweeney (Jennifer) of Summerville, South Carolina; daughter Colleen Sweeney Hamm (Bob) of Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania; and companion Delores Richardson of Davenport, Florida. He had 10 grandchildren: Shawn Sweeney (Jessie), Bonnie Sweeney, Shannon Holland, Matthew Sweeney (Katie), Erin Sweeney, Paul Sweeney, Christopher Sweeney, Johnathan Sweeney, Summer Sweeney, and Keelyn Hamm. He also had five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, May 12 at the High Vista Club House at Ridgewood Lakes from 4-6 p.m.
