Alberta Paisley Hamby, 92, died peacefully in Tarboro, NC, on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, after a long illness.
Bertie was born and raised in Bergholz, OH, the daughter of the late Charles Elliott and Jenny Meyers Paisley.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude Hamby, a son, Charlie James Hamby, Sr., two brothers; Willis and Charles Paisley, and four sisters; Lota Carson, Opal Peterson, Edna Williams, Esther Downard.
Her loving family that survive include her grand children, Charlie Hamby Jr., and wife, Amanda, of Tarboro, Hallie Hamby Hinnant and husband, Pat, of Fuquay Varina and Jason Hamby of Texas, and four great-grandchildren.
Bertie worked as a bookkeeper in Bergholz for most of her career, after retiring, she moved to North Carolina to be closer to her family. She was a colorful woman who loved her pins and brooches, especially her Christmas designs. In her younger years, she was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and very much enjoyed her scratch off lottery games. She was also known for her keen fashion sense, even in her last days. She carefully chose her outfit every morning and during a recent hospital stay, even commented on her hospital gown that she was “tired of wearing this same old dress!” Bertie was dearly loved and will be greatly missed, we find precious comfort in the knowledge that she is finally reunited with her beloved family who she has missed so much!
A memorial service will be celebrated at a later date.
