Darwin Swelbar

SWELBAR, Darwin Lane (Blackie), of Cadiz, died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

He was born Feb. 9, 1936, in Tippecanoe, OH, a son of the late Albert and Anna Exton Swelbar of Cadiz.

He was a retired Superintendent at Consol. He belonged to the Cadiz Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Wheeling Shrine Club. He was also a Veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Swelbar, Jr. and Kenneth Swelbar; and a sister, Gloria Davenport.

Surviving is his wife, Wanda Shaw Swelbar. They were married Aug. 15, 1955. Also surviving are two daughters, Diana (Pat) Frazier and Dara (Mark) Raber; grandchildren: Darla (Jeremy) Moore, Chuck (Jamey) McConnell, and Samantha Raber; great grandchildren: Dylan, Dustyn, and Jabyn Moore and Breely McConnell; a brother, Gaylord Swelbar; a special nephew, Randy Gilbert.

A memorial open house with family will be held July 13, 2014, at 5 p.m. at the home of Wanda Swelbar, 225 Harrison Ave., Cadiz.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Taylor Dowdle Scholarship Fund at Huntington Bank, 657 Lincoln Ave., Cadiz, OH 43907. Please specify in memory of Blackie Swelbar.
