Margaret Timcho

Margaret Slivka Timcho, 91, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, in Wheeling Hospital with her loving family by her side.

She was born on May 1, 1923, in Mingo Junction, Ohio, the youngest of 10 children to the late George and Anna (Kovalik) Slivka.

On February 9, 1942 she married her high school sweetheart and lifelong love, George “Mack” Timcho. He passed away January 27, 2013, just two weeks shy of their 71st wedding anniversary.

In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by six brothers: George, Andrew, Edward, Nicholas, John and infant Michael; three sisters: Ann McIntyre, Helen Dalesio and infant Mary; sons-in-law Jim Peterson and Richard Mazik; great-grandson Robert “Bub” Koch IV; and many loving sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Margaret’s goal in life was to make her family happy with all her homemade Slovak foods and pastries, at which she was an expert and holidays were always something special. In her younger days, Margaret worked as a tin flopper at Weirton Steel and also worked at Grant’s and Treasure Island Department Stores. She loved to bowl and was a great sports enthusiast on all levels. She and her late husband were avid fans of the Mingo Indians, the Ohio State Buckeyes and she loved attending all of her family’s sports activities. Her favorite tennis player was Andre Agassi.

Margaret was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Mingo Junction and a member of the Our Lady Guild of the church. Margaret loved her country and was a proud member and past president of the Mingo Junction American Legion Post 351 Ladies Auxiliary. She was most proud and honored to have served as a “House Mom” at Buckeye Girls State.

Left to mourn their Mom and Bubba are her four children: Peggy (Stan) Harasick of Wintersville, Ohio, Christine Peterson of Mingo Junction, George David (Robyn) Timcho of Toronto, Ohio, and Thomas (Deborah) Timcho of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren: Mark (Susan) Mazik, Jim (Becky) Peterson, Ericka Peterson and her husband Jan Poulsen, Michelle Timcho, Michael (Vonna) Timcho, A.J. (Jess) Timcho, Katie Ann Timcho and Elizabeth Timcho; nine great-grandchildren: Hunter, Sydney, Alexandra, Mackenzie, Sophia, Adeline, Campbell, Ingrid and Lilly; and many loving nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews who took time for her through the years. Special thanks to her caregiver, Diane Van Oss.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 207 Standard Ave., Mingo Junction, with the Rev. Father John Kapitan Jr. O.F.M. as celebrant. The American Legion Auxiliary will offer a short tribute to Margaret before the funeral service. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, where she will be together again with her husband, Mack.
