ROGERS, Fred W., 89, of Steubenville, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at Trinity West.
He was born May 19, 1925, in Steubenville, he is the son of the late Cecil West and Luna Edge Rogers.
Fred is also preceeded in death by his wife, Margaret Shimko Rogers; three brothers, Charles, Franklin, Marion; one sister, Shirley Solter, and son-in-law, Robert Ford.
Fred was a member of Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church, was retired from Timet, where he was general foreman of the Forge Shop.
Fred served his country in the US Marine Corps during WWII, 1 st. Marine Division, 3rd. Armor Amphibs, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, Forward Observer in Communications, Wounded in combat on Peleliu, was awarded the Purple Heart, WWII Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Pacific Theater of War Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater of War Medal, and Combat action Ribbon.
Surviving are one son Fred (Tyra) Rogers of Bloomingdale; two daughters, Barbara Ford of Bloomingdale and Janice (John) Sellaroli of Steubenville; three sisters, Ida Mae Frey of Wintersville, Clara (Leonard) Morris of Steubenville and Grace (Christian) Zink of Philadelphia. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Shawn Coleman, Kelli (Eric) DelGuzzo, Trisha (Mark) Milosevich, Michael Rogers and five great-grandchildren.
Fred was a member of the TriState Marine Corps and the Honor Guard, American Legion, “Band of Brothers”, Past member of, Red Oaks Country Club, Spring Hills, Swinging Seniors Golf Buddies, past member of bowling leagues, and a member of Jefferson County Sportsman and Mingo Sportsman’s Club’s.
Calling hours will be held Thursday 2-6 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Steubenville. Mass will be celebrated Friday 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Edward Maxfield, celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service held at 5:30.m.
