POLEN, Gerald E. “Jerry,” 81, of Brilliant, OH, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at Trinity Medical Center West.
He was born Nov. 19, 1932, in Brilliant, son of the late Ernest and Thelma “Dorothy” (Scott) Polen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mom, Lottie (Saffel) Polen.
Jerry was a retired carpenter from Local 186; he then became self-employed utilizing his various skills in home and small business repair for many years. He was affiliated with the Brilliant Methodist Church. Gerald enjoyed cutting grass and gardening and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Ruth (Mayle) Polen, whom he married July 20, 1951; four children, Debra (Bernard) Ford of Brilliant, OH, Beverly (Larry) Rogers of Knoxville, TN, John (Darlene) Polen of Porter, TX and Robert (Betty) Polen of Wheeling, WV; four siblings, William Polen of Dillonvale, OH, Betty Jane (Raymond) Hildebrand of Steubenville, OH and Shirley Polen and George (Joan) Polen of Rayland, OH; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Janet) Rogers, Jessica (Kyle) Benedict, Daniel (Bree) Polen, John David (Whittney) Polen, Matthew Polen, America Polen and Kaleb Polen; and eight great-grandchildren, Wesley and Peyton Rogers, Lainey, Mavrick and Gemma Benedict and Braedon, Brantsen and Brecken Polen.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant on Wednesday, from 1 p.m. until the time of his funeral services at 5 p.m. with Pastor Bob Carson officiating. Following the funeral service everyone is invited to Brilliant United Methodist Church for dinner and fellowship with the family.
